Assists the superintendent with the supervision of activities and personnel of the maintenance staff.
Maintains the golf course and ensures proper playing conditions.
Assists with developing and maintaining drainage, irrigation, pumping, and water systems.
Supervises and assists with all planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and grounds.
Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas.
Manages compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA, EPA, and Clemson extension rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, and public safety.
Trains and educates the staff on golf course maintenance practices while checking the quality of the work behind them.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to golf course activities, course maintenance, equipment repair, fertilizer and chemical applications, and pest control practices.
Communicates with pro shop staff, receives bids, and researches new cultural techniques in golf course maintenance.
Serves as back up to the Superintendent.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate degree in Turf Grass Management, Horticulture, or Agriculture.
One year’s experience performing golf course maintenance or landscaping, to include experience in supervision.
Any combination of education and experience totaling three years may be considered.
South Carolina Pesticide Applicator’s license – Ornamental and Turf Pest Control (Category 3).
Valid South Carolina Driver’s license.
