Grass Varieties for Every Landscape, Lawn, Field, or Course
Bentgrass
This grass is renowned for its fine texture and ability to withstand close mowing, making it ideal for golf courses. It has a lush, carpet-like appearance—think of those smooth greens and fairways. Its fine texture and dense growth also make it suitable for high-end lawns or ornamental gardens.
However, it’s important to remember that this grass does require consistent mowing, watering, aerating, dethatching, and high levels of fertilizer to keep up appearances.
It’s well-suited for the Northeast’s cooler climate, but it will most likely require extra maintenance during extreme heat in the summer.
Kentucky Bluegrass
Kentucky Bluegrass is known for its beautiful blue-green color and excellent cold tolerance.
This grass can take a beating. It’s a preferred option for lawns, parks, and sports fields due to its dense growth and self-repairing nature, thriving particularly well in temperate and cooler climates.
This grass thrives in well-drained, fertile soil. It may require overseeding if summer is dry, as it can go dormant in extreme heat.
Fescue
A hardy and drought-resistant grass, great for both aesthetic and utility purposes in various settings like lawns, public spaces, and commercial landscapes.
There are different types of fescue, including:
- Tall
- Fine
- Hard Fescue
Overall, this grass requires less maintenance and is tolerant of less-than-perfect soil conditions.
Dr. Pete’s Turf Tip
Always get a soil test before your spring seeding.
This is a step too many professionals tend to skip. It might save you some time, but for BIG jobs, it’s a must, and it’s fast and easy.
Getting a handle on soil pH is an important first step since it will greatly influence nutrient availability for many years, and the best time to address soil pH extremes (and thus nutrient availability) is just prior to establishment when there is bare/open soil.
Shade Tolerant Seed Varieties
Seeds specially bred for better performance in low-light environments.
Perfect for areas under trees or in the shadow of buildings, these seeds are designed to perform exceptionally well even with limited sunlight.
Erosion Control Seed Varieties
Specifically bred to stabilize soil and prevent erosion, these seeds are essential for landscapes prone to wind or water erosion. They are also great in landscaping to prevent soil loss in windy areas.
They quickly establish a root system that binds the soil, making them ideal for slopes, banks, and waterways.
Coated Seeds
Enhanced with nutrients and protective coatings that improve seed-to-soil contact, enhance moisture retention, and provide essential nutrients for early growth stages.
Whip out coated seeds when establishing new lawns or repairing damaged areas.
Seed Mixes
Tailor-made blends for specific regional and environmental needs.
From arid regions needing drought-resistant varieties to the cooler climates requiring hardy, resilient grasses, our mixes ensure optimal growth and health.
With specialized blends, you can achieve a lush, vibrant landscape perfectly suited to your local environment.
Sport Seed Mixes
These mixes are created specifically for football, soccer, baseball fields, or any recreational areas that experience heavy foot traffic and vigorous activity.
These mixes often include a combination of grasses like ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and fescue to withstand heavy use and frequent trampling, ensuring a playing surface that remains robust and attractive throughout the season.

EROSION CONTROL
Erosion control is essential for maintaining healthy turf and soil stability. Effective erosion control techniques, such as proper seeding and soil management, prevent soil loss and promote strong root development. Utilizing erosion control products helps protect newly seeded areas from wind and water damage, ensuring vibrant, sustainable lawns and landscapes. Implementing best practices in erosion control supports environmental conservation and enhances the overall aesthetic of your outdoor spaces.

HYDRA-SEEDING
Hydra-seeding is an innovative and efficient method for erosion control and soil stabilization. This process combines seed, mulch, fertilizer, and water into a slurry that is sprayed evenly over large areas, promoting faster germination and healthier turf growth. Hydra seeding is ideal for challenging terrains and large-scale projects, providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions. Hydra-seeding helps protect landscapes from erosion while enhancing overall vegetation density.
