The Country Club of Buffalo is the premier country club in Western New York. Founded in 1889, the Club is rich in tradition and heritage, celebrating 100 years at its current location in 2026. Many legacy families have enjoyed membership for generations. The Membership has strong respect and admiration for our employees and considers them like family. The Club enjoys a strong history of employment stability; many employees and managers have multiple decades of tenure at the Country Club.
The Country Club of Buffalo features a challenging Donald Ross designed golf course, which is consistently ranked and recognized nationally. In 2027 the USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will be hosted at the Club, and in 2032 CCB will play host to the USGA Men’s Senior Amateur Championship. The Club’s amenities include golf, tennis, swimming, trap, skeet, five-stand, and brushwalk sport shooting, six overnight guest rooms, and paddle tennis. The Duane Lyman designed Clubhouse encompasses 55,000 square feet featuring stately living rooms, three dining rooms, and various private party rooms. In recent years the Club has embarked on a series of major improvements; in 2022 the main kitchen was renovated, and a new irrigation system on the golf course was installed. In 2025 a $3.4 million project was completed which included a fully renovated pool complex, updated overnight rooms, and the addition of dedicated pickle ball courts. The new Assistant Manager will be on hand to assist with the planning and development of our next major project which is expected to include upgrades to the golf course, specifically bunker complexes and the practice range. The Club’s revenues are approximately $11 million annually, including $3.5 million in food and beverage. The Club has approximately 500 members, the initiation fee is $40,000, and annual dues are $17,800.
The Club is open 5-6 days per week seasonally; 11.5 months per year.

Assistant Manager
Job Description
The Assistant Manager is directly responsible for the activities of the service areas of the clubhouse which includes all member dining, general housekeeping, front office/reception, overnight guest rooms, locker rooms, laundry, valet, and the halfway house.
The Assistant Manager is responsible to enhance and oversee the training programs for food and beverage service personnel, to emphasize service standards and a system to monitor and improve service quality and efficiency. The Assistant Manager directly supervises the duties of the Food & Beverage Manager, Bar Manager, and Catering Director, as well as lead positions in the laundry, halfway house, valet, housekeeping, front office, and locker rooms. This position is also responsible for leading the Club’s robust and highly desirable internship program, which in 2026 is hosting seven students interested in careers in Club management. The Assistant Manager is responsible to develop and maintain an effective program of employee recognition and reward to ensure a high degree of employee morale.
The Assistant Manager is required to maintain a high level of daily member engagement. The successful candidate should be comfortable and confident in this high visibility role.
The Assistant Manager works closely with the Executive Chef and other department heads daily to coordinate and lead the activities of the clubhouse, tournaments, and special events.
The Assistant Manager is the key staff contact to the House Committee, and leads the management discussion at all House Committee meetings, to include the preparation of a written monthly report, and in coordination with the Catering Director, plans special social and entertainment events.
The Club’s Summer Camp Program is outsourced to a third party contractor, and this position is the main point of contact with the contractor.
Administrative responsibilities include preparation of operating and capital budget requests for all departments/activities under position’s control. This includes regular monitoring of labor costs and all operating results, preparation of variance reports, and development of corrective actions when needed. Assistant Manager is responsible for all supply and expendable inventories for their departments, including china, glassware, silver, paper products, linens/towels, and staff uniforms.
Candidate Qualifications
A four-year degree (preferably Hotel/Restaurant/Club) or Business Management, five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. A person with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to service, and a personal and professional self-confidence to lead others is critically important. Candidates should have strong communication skills; both in creative and critical writing and the ability to speak effectively before groups of members, guests and/or employees of the club is important. Candidates are expected to have the ability to use standard accounting, word processing, and presentation software in preparation of reports, studies, analyses, and related administrative duties. A general understanding of standard point of sale computer systems specific to the Club industry is beneficial.
