Position Overview
Palmetto Bluff is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team at Anson Point. Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, this position plays a vital role in maintaining exceptional playing conditions while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and positive work environment.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for golf course management, turf health, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily management and operation of the golf course, including course setup, maintenance scheduling, and execution of agronomic programs
- Supervise, mentor, and train maintenance staff in accordance with course standards and safety protocols
- Monitor turf conditions and implement maintenance practices to ensure optimal playability and presentation
- Oversee irrigation operations and water management strategies to promote turf health and water efficiency
- Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent, fellow assistants, and equipment technicians to develop and execute annual maintenance plans and budgets
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry best practices
- Participate in brainstorming and planning sessions, contributing innovative ideas to improve course conditions and operational efficiency
- Foster open communication, encouraging team members to share feedback and suggestions
- Assist with ordering, inventory tracking, and proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies
- Participate in special projects, renovations, and course improvements as directed
- Promote a positive, team-oriented culture that supports professional growth and development
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance or a related field
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related discipline preferred (equivalent experience will be considered)
- Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, turfgrass species, and irrigation systems
- Prior experience supervising and training staff
- Ability to operate and maintain golf course maintenance equipment
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

With land sales and real estate continuing to grow, there has been other areas of the property expanding as well. Our agronomy department consists of the Jack Nicklaus designed May River course that opened in 2004, the King-Collins designed reversible 9-hole Crossroads course that opened January 2024, and a new Coore-Crenshaw designed Anson Point course that opened in January 2025. We are building new teams from scratch and developing current teams through the Agronomy leadership with over 75 years of combined experience. We are searching for the next era of leaders to join, and grow with, our department by bringing new ideas and energy to a great foundation currently in place at Palmetto Bluff.
