ABOUT THE CLUB
Pete Dye Golf Club of Bridgeport, WV, is proud to be considered among the country’s finest golf courses, ranking perennially on various “top 100” lists. Legendary designer Pete Dye called it “18 of the most exciting holes I ever built on one course.” The Club is home to West Virginia University Men’s Golf Team and hosts an annual collegiate event in April, which features teams from around the country.
SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
The Equipment Manager reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents, overseeing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all club-owned pieces of equipment. This individual is responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and organized maintenance facilities and detailed service records for each piece of equipment. The Equipment Manager ensures each piece of equipment is put away in working order, adjusted and ready for the next use. They are an integral part of the training program for the entire
Turf Care Team, with respect to proper equipment use and required preventative maintenance and safety checks, both before and after use of any equipment. The Equipment Manager provides direct oversight and training of the Equipment Technicians.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintains and improves organization of equipment service area and parts storage inventory.
• Inspects all equipment for operating deficiencies, both in the shop and while in service on the property.
• Performs daily inspection and adjustment of all reel mowers, sharpening as needed.
• Lubricates and services all equipment based on preventative maintenance schedule and usage.
• Establishes and trains team members on pre and post equipment usage checklists.
• Repairs and adjusts equipment as needed, using welding and fabrication as needed.
• Performs emergency repairs to equipment on the golf course as needed.
AREAS OF INITIAL FOCUS
1. Inventory and assessment of the existing equipment fleet.
2. Prepare budget for repair of failing pieces of equipment.
3. Winter maintenance and organization of existing equipment fleet.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Must be 18 years of age or older
2. Knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain all golf course equipment
3. Preferred graduate of a vocational technical school or post-secondary training in small engine repair or mechanics.
4. Four to six years of experience as a mechanic or equipment technician.
5. Must possess a valid driver’s license
6. Knowledge of the game of golf and how job performance affects the conditioning of the golf course.
7. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
8. Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, pulling, continuous standing and walking, repetitive motions.
