Job Description Summary
Organization’s Summary Statement:
Under direct supervision, functions as a lead worker for a team of groundskeepers performing manual labor duties in a variety of landscape maintenance tasks.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to work in adverse weather and temperature extremes and be free from debilitating pollen allergies and the like. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and on occasion up to 100 pounds; stand and walk continuously; lift, stoop, and/or bend for extended periods of time; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.). The shift hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Position is Essential and is subject to 24 hour day/7 day week span of operation.
Preferences:
Desire and ability to become a Registered Maryland Pesticide Applicator.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C Driver’s License or equivalent with fewer than 6 pts
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE: One year as a groundskeeper.
OTHER:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of the general care of grounds; of techniques for cultivating, planting, mowing, and caring for lawns, gardens, shrubs and trees. Working knowledge of and skill in the operation and proper care of assigned hand and power tools and equipment. Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to follow oral and written instructions; to perform work in, on, around, under, and over trees, shrubs, buildings and facilities; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying and heavy lifting; to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland may be required. Certification by the State of Maryland as a pesticides and/or herbicides applicator may be required. Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
