Job Summary:
Assist the Director of Field Operations repairing and maintaining the Coca-Cola Park playing surface and its surrounding components as a safe, first-class baseball field by performing daily turf, soil and water management; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning & budgeting. The Field Operations Manager will also assist with off-season planning and equipment maintenance.

Coca-Cola Park has been the home of the IronPigs since the team’s inception in 2008. The park hosts not only IronPigs home contests, but a number of special events and community gatherings. The IronPigs are Minor League Baseball’s per-game attendance leader since the team’s inception in 2008, averaging more than 9,000 fans per contest in the ballpark’s 688-game history. Coca-Cola Park has been among the most progressive venues in professional sports since its highly-acclaimed debut in 2008, receiving numerous honors and distinctions, including Ballpark Digest’s “Ballpark of the Year” award and “Best Game Operations and Presentation” award as chosen by gameops.com. It has also drawn rave reviews for its intimacy, fan-friendly atmosphere and architectural design.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedule, train, and supervise part-time game day staff.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the playing field.
  • Assist in controlling the Coca-Cola Park irrigation system, including proper water management, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves, and winterization.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for pre-game batting practice by setting up cage, screens, mats, and protective field covers.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for game use by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines, painting outfield foul lines, marking coaching boxes.
  • Assist in infield tarp pulls.
  • Track grounds department inventory (fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.).
  • Assist Facilities department with duties that include, but are not limited to, HVAC, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, preventative maintenance and other projects during the winter months (Nov – Feb).

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive relationship with umpires & coaches in weather related matters.
  • Develop a relationship with home and visiting managers to coordinate pre-game batting practice.
  • Participate in additional professional education
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a stressful and ever-changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, skills, and practices
  • Ability to work up to 15 hours per day, as necessary, in outdoor weather conditions

Qualifications:

  • Preferably hold a 2 or 4 year degree in turf management or equivalent experience
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a PA applicator’s license

Compensation:

  • Salary negotiated based on experience
