Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent reports to and will work directly with the Director of Agronomy to oversee daily golf course operations, lead and develop staff, and execute both short- and long-term agronomic plans across the property.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining exceptional course conditions while fostering a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture. The position offers the opportunity to work within a progressive agronomic operation utilizing modern technologies, advanced cultural practices, and collaborative leadership.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, highly motivated, and passionate about the profession with a strong desire to grow within an innovative operation focused on both agronomic excellence and team development.
This role is ideal for a current Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent seeking an opportunity within a high-standard operation that values professional growth, strong support systems, and quality of life.
Reporting Structure
This position will report directly to the Director of Agronomy
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute daily golf course maintenance operations
- Schedule, train, mentor, and lead sta to meet conditioning and presentation standards
- Manage and implement agronomic programs including fertility, plant protectants, moisture management, and cultural practices
- Utilize modern technologies and data platforms including moisture monitoring, GPS sprayers, irrigation software, and digital scheduling/reporting systems
- Monitor course conditions and adjust practices based on data, weather, and realtime observations
- Assist with irrigation management, water-use eiciency, and system troubleshooting/repair
- Support capital improvement projects and long-term course enhancement initiatives
- Assist with budgeting, inventory management, and resource allocation
- Promote and reinforce a strong, positive, hospitality-driven team culture
- Ensure all work is completed safely, eiciently, and in alignment with environmental and OSHA standards
- Build relationships within the industry through vendors, manufacturers, and local/state superintendent associations
- Reinforce a culture of accountability and ownership throughout the operation
Qualifications
- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of both cool- and warm-season turfgrass management programs
- Experience with irrigation systems, water management practices, and repair techniques
- Familiarity with modern turf management technologies and data platforms
- Understanding of budgeting and aligning short- and long-term operational goals
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills
- Virginia pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain
- Passion for the game of golf and providing exceptional playing conditions
