Position Overview
Oyster Reef Golf Club is seeking a motivated, career-driven Assistant Superintendent to join our agronomy team on Hilton Head Island. The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in daily course operations, helping to deliver exceptional playing conditions while supporting team leadership, planning, and execution.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and execution of all turfgrass maintenance activities
- Supervise and train crew members; lead daily assignments and follow-up
- Support chemical and fertilizer applications in compliance with all regulations
- Monitor course conditions and assist in developing agronomic programs
- Assist with irrigation system management, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Maintain accurate records of applications, labor, and equipment usage
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company protocols
- Participate in course setup and tournament preparation
Experience Requirements
1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience
South Carolina pesticide license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
Strong work ethic with a desire to grow in the golf course management profession
Leadership mindset with the ability to motivate and develop team members
Knowledge of warm-season turf preferred (Bermuda, Paspalum)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Educational Requirements
Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field preferred
Special Requirements
Licenses and Special Requirements
• Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA)
• Pesticide Application certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
